Most organizations have a vision of achieving excellence, of being the very best at what they do… one component of achieving that vision is having staff members who work towards the mission and strategies of the organization!
Performance management is an effective tool for guiding and assessing the contribution of employees to the organization.
All employees have the right to know what is expected of them, and are entitled to receive on a regular basis, information on the quality of their performance.
A performance evaluation should take place at the end of each employee’s probationary period and thereafter, once a year. An informal evaluation may take place on a quarterly basis to make sure that everything is still on track and to re-assess goals and/or projects if needed.
All informal evaluations and daily performances of an employee should be the basis for their annual performance evaluation.
The goal is to give the employee recognition and support; to make constructive suggestions about areas in which the employee could develop further their competencies; to establish goals for further professional development and to advise on methods and to provide assistance to achieve these goals.
Remember…
This is the time of year to start this important task!
PCPC has a salary grid available by email (info@pcpcontario.org) to assist you when working on contracts and pay scales!
We are sure that you have heard of the many health and safety concerns that occupy a part of our news on a constant basis; but, have you ever wondered where to find the details of this information?
We have the answers!
This is the time of year that the Board begins to get tired, and in some cases a little discouraged. The Centre has been through a busy autumn, and now the Board must start looking at marketing, open houses, contracts, and the list goes on… are they working as a team, or as a group of individuals?
Building an effective team and creating an organizational culture of teamwork may be the most important job that management does. No matter what type of organization that you work with, or what size it is, it is important to keep in mind the old adage that ‘teamwork simply stated, is less me and more we!’
Why is teamwork so important? Often the solution to a problem is so complex that it requires multiple skills, input and approaches to resolve. This same synergy is required when developing an innovative product or service. A number of basic characteristics exist for the success of a team, including:
Regardless of the tasks ahead, never lose sight of the reason for your work – it is important to many!
Also remember, PCPC is a member of your team – we are available to help answer questions and offer advice, as well, visit the website (www.pcpcontario.org) for many additional resources on the member’s only section!
With the many economic woes of today displayed in all types media, the future for many employees may seem threatened and uncertain… how can you help?
When the future is threatening and uncertain, leaders need their people to follow them into the unknown, not just waiting for the future to arrive, but actively contributing to the arrival of the future that the organization needs. To accomplish this, employees need information that they can trust, from the person they want to trust: their leader!
When there is a lack of official information, but a surplus of rumours (especially in larger organizations), this is where danger arises…
Leaders need to communicate information that allows employees to view the rumour grapevine more suspiciously. Following some of the steps below will create a trust that will act as the light that will get everybody through the darkness of uncertainty.

Bake Sales: Home baking is always a sure money maker. It’s hard to resist the aromas and temptations of a bake table.
When the baked goods are delivered from the volunteers, take time to dress them up attractively. Use ribbons and bows, seasonal stickers and decorative boxes. The extra work is worth it and makes the goodies very tempting!
Phantom or Ghost Bake Sales: This is the reverse of a bake sale. Many parents feel that they do not have the time, interest, or expertise to participate in a bake sale. They would rather buy something to donate, or not take part at all.
A ‘No-Bake Sale’ offers these parents the option of contributing in cash what they would have spent either purchasing the ingredients for the baking they did not wish to do or the price of the good they would have purchased to donate to the sale.

Blue and white are the most common school colours!
Like Ontario, British Columbia is organized with service and support organizations like PCPC. These two councils are:
Similar to appliances and electricity, the tighter your home, the less fuel you’ll need to keep it warm. Start by identifying and sealing air leaks, which can be found around chimneys, window frames, and the top of the foundation walls where wood meets concrete, and plumbing and electrical chases. Sealing your home (and office too) against air leaks is the most cost-effective improvement you can make to reduce heating and cooling consumption while increasing your comfort.
Unless they are properly designed, sealed against leaks, and well insulated, heating and cooling ducts can account for tremendous energy loss to the unconditioned spaces which they travel like attics and basements. If you have forced-air heating and cooling, be sure to seal and insulate everywhere you can!
